annie marie duff ballerina, crowd will catch you general info
personality
nervous, skittish but incredibly excitable, annie duff is a bumbling ball of energy. and she's sorry about the enthusiasm, by the way, because annie's sorry about most things. but for someone who seems incredibly jittery, it should be noted that annie likes to push her boundaries to the extreme – the most mild-mannered daredevil you'll ever meet for sure! feeling like she has the obligation to get as much out of anything she does as possible, annie will volunteer herself for pretty much anything even if it absolutely terrifies her. and preferring to push herself and live in a constant state of what she phrases as “overwhelmia”, annie likes to think that if she's not scared, it's not worth doing. understandably, the constant state of terror annie apparently tends to seek isn't the healthiest mindset in the world. possibly expected out of someone who is quite anxious, annie tends to feel guilty immensely quickly and often for unwarranted reasons. this girl is tremendously talented at guilt-tripping herself into doing things. yet while the fact her motivations often come from unhealthy places, annie's still got a genuine enthusiasm for a lot of things! she's not a particularly scholarly person – poor marks in most of her subjects speak for that – but she loves people, and tends to be pretty intuitive about what they want or need if she isn't second guessing herself. unfortunately, she is often on edge around them. she finds that comes with the uncontrollable acidic mutation, though. having to physically keep her distance, annie tries to make up by trying to keep up a full-on, spontaneous personality. this leads to impulsive decisions that have have left her in trouble at the school more than once. despite having the reputation of a delinquent who may as well be scared of her own shadow, annie's just trying to make the most out of her time at xavier's school for the gifted. biography ex-ballet school student, now student of xavier's school for the gifted, annie's terrified of what will happen following her graduation. far away from wanting to be a member of the x-men, and far away from home, she's a mutant that would rather start a whole new life – a life firmly without superpowers. annie would want to restart it in dublin, ireland, for one. she was born and spent most of her early years there, years she looks back on with great fondness her parents worked modest jobs in the capital – her mother worked in a post office, her father a city planner — and were both non-powered. she had an incredibly close relationship with them and still does to this day. as expected, as she grew up they wanted the best opportunities for their sole daughter and tried to provide for her as best they could. when annie took a shining to ballet in particular, they took on themselves to do whatever they could to make her succeed in it. eventually, her hard work and her parent's enthusiasm earned annie a place at the royal ballet school in london. however, somewhere she ended up loathing the city on moving to attend the school at eleven years old. she ended up torn between her despair over leaving her home but the feeling of being ungrateful given that her parents had devoted so much time and money to her. with this in mind, she tried to force herself to give it her all. soon this attempt became challenging as she became a target for maliciousness among other students and underwent bullying. shorter and chubbier than the other students – or as she phrases it embarrassedly, “dumpy” — annie begun to struggle with her performance at the school. annie's heightened anxiety during this time proved the catalyst to awakening her mutant powers. her acid generation manifested gradually and out of her pores like sweat – while she was impervious to the acid she was producing, soon sweat stains would burn through her clothes. the ultimate culmination of powers was a performance amounted in three other dancers suffering nasty chemical burns. from that point on annie considered any prospect of a dancing career completely over. instead, the next few years in a young offenders institution, the uk equivalent of juvie, seemed far more likely. annie remembers a lot of crying then, too scared to hug her mother on the basis she was afraid her tears would burn her. the mutant aspect of annie's case complicated things, half a s a poster child for the fact that mutants supposedly weren't safe to have among humans. while she managed to escape heavy sentencing the whole process of exhausting not only for her but for her parents which she still harbours a lot of guilt over. no matter how accepting they were of her mutant status, annie felt as if she had let down her parents in most ways conceivable – in her talent and in her humanity. attending xavier's school for the gifted was the only option felt possible when annie's powers showed no signs of being reigned in. it was suggested by a supervisor following a community sentence activity was derailed by her acidic properties. soon, that became her parents next goal to work towards. annie felt like she wasn't worthy of the effort but it seemed the only hope she really had of accomplishing control over her powers. despite her nervousness, annie is now fully determined to make the most of things at the school! however, her enthusiasm and drive is aimless and unrefined – given that the one dream she had, being a ballet dancer, seems unattainable to her – which means throwing herself into things isn't really the best strategy she's got. even if she'd rather fantasise about a world where she doesn't have powers. POWERS annie is capable of acid generation, able to secrete acid which can vary in levels of corrosiveness. while she is immune to the the acidic substance she produces other things, or people, are capable of being affected by it. this can range from small chemical burns to legitimately corrosive, melting and destructive effects. typically, it's secreted through annie's pores and transferred through her touch. additionally, some bodily fluids she produces are acidic, such as spit or sweat. as she is not particularly talented at controlling her power as of now, she typically secretes mildly acidic sweat during the day. while this means she goes through a lot of clothes – burnt through sweat patches, very very embarrassing for her — a more pressing matter is that physical contact with annie can be dangerous and result in chemical burns. as mentioned, annie's powers are capable of becoming particularly corrosive. this is often experienced in times of heightened anxiety and stress, and could possibly burn through human flesh and leave heavy scarring. it should be noted that as she does not have refined control over her power, she cannot do much more damage than this – perhaps thankfully. however, if she became more skilled, it is possible that she could utilise her powers to burn through materials such as some metals. this would only through immense training! | ooc info ☆ NAME pidge ☆ OTHER CHARACTERS n/a ☆ FACE CLAIM AO NO EXORCIST moriyama shiemi, annie duff THIS CHARACTER BELONGS TO PIDGE.
