nathan lee-jones highway to the danger zone general info
personality
nathan can be seen as a very honest individual. he makes no mistake about what he likes and dislikes, something that many can attest to. his straightforward and competitive personality make it hard to get along with some people, and sometimes blinding him to the boundaries of others. not to mention, his need for independence often makes him butt heads with authority. his ambitious nature leaves him wanting more in life, but he isn't blind to the limitations what he can achieve. despite how pessimistic he might sound, the man is actually a very outgoing person. raised with the freedom of a canadian mother and traditions of a chinese father, nathan has a free spirit and idealized morals. he is aware of his own selfishness and impatience, and tries to be above that - sometimes. if anything he likes helping people because it makes both parties feel better. although, he is surprisingly generous. academically, nathan is nothing special. he holds much more affinity for the arts than the sciences, which peeves him immensely as he adores the advances in human understanding. not being able to be a part of that is extremely regrettable. to his own dismay, due to influences from his father, he also is very attentive of world news and politics. that aside, he makes no apologies for being your average young adult. with witty banter and sarcasm, nathan is the complete package that comes along with childish pranks and corrupting the younger minds of the school. watch out for water wars and intramural tournaments while he's around! biography nathan was born into a rather privileged household, there being adequate resources for all his and his siblings' schooling and activities. of course, his parents were also strict and demanding, always hoping he would become someone rich and respected. gaining his powers, unfortunately, seemed to put a real damper on their dreams. there was no denying the racism against mutants, however subtle it may be. for the most part of his life, nathan was forced to conceal his abilities. hoping that he would gain control through discipline, the boy took up a variety of martial arts, in which actually helped. nonetheless, nathan was still rather outspoken and curious child looking for freedom. in his teenage mind, abusing his ability to travel to the next town over to visit his girlfriend seemed like a good idea at the time. that is, until people started reporting weird and random flashes in the sky. whoops. then it was off to xavier's school for the gifted for him. in a span of a week, he was shipped out to the new school, his parents secretly hoping before anyone realized the antics of their idiotic son. attending his new school was a real experience. realizing that his control was horribly lacking compared to his schoolmates, the teen quickly made his new goal to be the best - well, or at least enough so that he wouldn't feel inadequate around everyone. okay, so maybe he wasn't the most ambitious person, but that didn't mean he doesn't want to take the world by storm. just you know, right after he finishes eating that sandwich. currently, he looks forward to graduating, but tries to hide just how extremely intimidated by the future his is. while he wishes help the world by becoming an x-men, he also wants to further his career to prove to his parents that he isn't some failure. stuck at a crossroads, nathan is afraid he might lose both chances if he's too greedy. POWERS nathan possess a light energy body that allows him photokinesis. this means that turn into, generate, or manipulate light. from light-speed travel and photokinetic combat to light constructs and laser beams, he can do it all - kind of. the range of abilities is considerably offset by the difficulty in using them in the first place. at most he can flash around in super-speed combat, using kinetic force to deal damage. traveling as light, as opposed quick flashes, requires a visual confirmation, thus limiting him to only as far as he can see. his powers offer little defensive value and many of his abilities require time and concentration that he usually can't afford in battle. for example, shaping light into constructs akin to something like beam swords require finesse and experience he lacks, while firing an extreme beam of light to mimic the effects of a laser capable of cutting through metal takes too much time to change and aim. perhaps they would be of more effective use with more control in the future, but for now they are merely ideas saved for another day. as a user of visible light, nathan is also subjected to the rules that affect his power. sometimes, a good mirror or shiny enough surface is enough to reflect his entire arsenal. all in all, his control is barely adequate in combat situations. like putting a new driver in a race car, he can only do so much before the crash and burn. nonetheless, nathan has enough mastery to prevent any accidents or backfires of his ability. overuse of his powers usually leads to extreme mental and physical fatigue. | ooc info ☆ NAME lux ☆ OTHER CHARACTERS n/a ☆ FACE CLAIM ♦ FINAL FANTASY VIII -- SQUALL LEONHART – NATHAN LEE-JONES THIS CHARACTER BELONGS TO LUX.
