escha quinnEIGHTEEN + FEMALE + X-STUDENT + PANSEXUAL | ABOUT | Escha is an only child, so for most of her life she's been surrounded by uppity, rich adults. Her parents are kind enough, but they're busy most of the time so Escha only had servants for company. She didn't mind of course, and usually just spent her time practising her instruments or reading books, between her lessons. She's used to being alone, and a master at being a wall flower at parties, she tends to keep to herself for the most part, but is known to have a temper and stubborn streak if she doesn't get her way on certain matters. | | FRIENDS | Escha never had many friends before she came to Xavier's School, and she certainly isn't making an effort to make some now. With the knowledge of how dangerous her powers can be, Escha tends to keep a distance with people. The only time she's willing to interact with others is if it was absolutely necessary and if she herself initiates it. Other than that, she'll just shy away and perhaps politely excuse herself. It takes a while for her to soften up to people, but once she does, she can be a little clingy but at least she's loyal and would do anything in her power to protect them. | | ENEMIES | Any enemies that Escha might make would probably be unintentional. If she doesn't make it a point to make friends, she definitely doesn't go out picking fights. For the most part any animosity between her and someone would be one-sided since Escha wouldn't even have a clue as to why anyone would dislike her. Though it isn't surprising if people think that she was being snobbish or rude because of her aloofness. | | LOVERS | Love is very foreign for Escha, and she wouldn't even recognize or believe it if it was plainly pointed out to her. From her experience any and all partnerships/marriages were purely for business purposes. So if Escha were to find herself attracted to someone, she would probably lay out pros and cons and perhaps even what she could gain from any potential relationship. Expect a very thorough interview and background check should you ever want to pursue Escha as a love interest. |

for first impressions, escha might seem cold and slightly snobbish, but in actuality she is quite kind, almost overly so. she's just really timid, an introvert if you want to get technical. she prefers to stay away from the spotlight, and just standing in the sidelines, ever the observant bystander, but she won't hesitate to offer her services if needed, generous and diligent as she was with her time and whatever resources she could offer. her capacity for compassion would be considered admirable by some, though it usually gives off the impression that she's quite gullible. contrary to that, she's actually as cautious as a very paranoid prairie dog, so unless you're very convincing, she'd probably won't trust anything that comes from anyone's mouth. if and when escha speaks, she is usually very blunt, though in a polite manner/tone and some may interpret what she says as harsh or insensitive, truthfully she's just quite honest, and a very horrible liar. though she rarely speaks, escha can be quite insightful in certain subjects. having been born in a fairly rich, and nigh aristrocratic family, escha does have the tendency to be a bit spoiled with certain things, and thus becomes quite temperamental, and prone to childish tantrums if she doesn't get her way. it is also because of her upbringing that escha is conservative in nature and usually sticks to very outdated societal trends/expectations.
having been born as the only child of a very rich and somewhat influential family, it wasn't an odd thing that escha could and would get anything and everything she wanted. having been waited on hand and foot by several servants for all of current life, escha was living the dream that everyone strove for. so it goes without saying, that even if her parents or even her servants refused to do something she wanted them to do, a simple well placed word, perhaps a pouty face and teary eyes, and they would concede to her whims without even a second a thought. what was odd however, was that once escha had finally gotten what she had asked for, the person that she'd had her attention on would feel as if they'd just awakened from a hazy dream, and have an uneasy feeling in the pit of their stomach.
it wasn't until a very late summer afternoon that escha suspected that something was very wrong with her. her family had been throwing some form of party, a celebration for some type of new business venture. everything was going as planned, and everyone was enjoying themselves while escha's parents were subtly trying to get some of their 'friends' to invest in this new business. escha of course was merely watching, always watching as people went about their lives from day to day. it wasn't until a scream broke over the murmuring crowd that things took a turn for the worst, an uninvited guest had somehow come into the party and had held her father at gunpoint. no one moved as the gunman yelled and raved about his life falling to pieces due to her family's greed, but escha didn't pay attention to anything he said, all she could focus on was that her father was in danger. without thinking she wailed at the gunman to stop, desist and if he had anyone to blame for his failures it was himself. the gunman who's eyes had been focused, determined albeit a bit frantic, suddenly became lax, and almost dazed. escha didn't pay much mind to his odd behaviour, and in her hysterics, and anger she told the gunman one thing. "why don't you do the world a favour and just shoot yourself?!"
without another word, the gunman silently and almost lazily raised the gun to his own temple, and did as escha had instructed him. shocked and horrified everyone screamed, but escha was silent. after the incident escha began to question herself and even blame herself for what happened. she was even sent to a therapist to help cope with her guilt. and in those sessions escha used her so called 'shrink' as a test subject. when she'd told that gunman to shoot himself, she had felt it, a pull from the depths of her mind that wasn't uncomfortable, but felt like something heavy was pushing against it, even her voice had sounded slightly distorted, at least to her own ears as she spoke. she was unsuccessful in her first tries, but in every try her therapist would grow suddenly silent and get that same dazed look in their eyes just as the gunman did. at first they didn't remember or didn't pay any mind to escha's 'suggestions', but as escha grew to understand more about her odd ability, she was finally able to get her therapist to do as she asked, and she had asked them to dance, jump, and even to let her leave early for a session. and in her success, her test subject remembered, but found nothing odd, thinking it had been their own decision all along. frightened by this ability, escha decided to leave and possibly hide herself away from world, not wanting to hurt anyone else.
when she told her parents of her discovery and her decision to leave, they were oddly supportive. it was then that they admitted that escha was not the first to have abilities in their family. her grandmother had a similar abilty, even her father had a hypnotic ability, while her mother was an empath, but their abilities were no where as strong as escha's. they told her that during the incident, escha's command had been so compelling that even they had been influenced. luckily escha had her attention solely on the gunman so no one else was 'compelled' like the gunman was. with this knowledge her parents sent her to xavier's school for the gifted, they had been told of the school by a fellow 'mutant' as they called themselves, back when they themselves had been young but never attended since their families were less than convinced of their powers. but escha was desperate to be able to control her powers, so she would not be able to harm anyone again.
vocal persuasion: escha's powers can be easily described as a form of mind control or hypnosis. with her voice, words, and tone she can 'persuade', 'compel', and 'command' someone to do her bidding. similar to the ability that sirens had with their singing, but escha only needs to speak. basically it's like : "these are not the droids you're looking for."
there are of course limitations to escha's powers, such as: she needs to be able to speak clearly, if she were to lose her voice or her lips were sealed, she would not be able to use them. secondly, those she wants to compel must be able to hear and understand her command clearly, kind of useless trying to persuade a deaf person or even a japanese person who can't understand one world of english. thirdly, the person that escha is trying to persuade must be able to do the command, for example: asking someone to make a time machine out of paper clips and tape. next, escha must mean the command she gives and her target must be within the right mindset to do her command. basically, escha needs to want to hurt the person and her target must be of like mindset(i.e. to be willing to hurt or be hurt) lastly, complex commands are less effective than simple commands. it's better to be blunt and to the point, rather than rambling on which escha tends to do, especially when she's nervous.
a complex command can be something like a long set of instructions, such as making someone make a flaming baked alaska.
a simple command can be something along the lines of simply telling someone to jump.
it has also been suspected that people with high/super intelligence are able to fight against vocal persuasion. people such as those with psychic/mind type powers might be able to resist or even break the persuasion. a person who is strong of will might be able to resist as well.
memory loss commands, though common, are difficult for escha to perform, even if she were successful, her target would only forget for a little while or the thought would sort of linger in the back of their minds or just be a hazy memory, like they know they need their car keys, but aren't sure what for. and if escha were trying to make someone forget a question, they might just ask it again or later on. also, commands that are given when the target is under a stress are much more compelling and successful.
when under a persuasion, some targets will fall under a dream like state similar to when under hypnosis and might not be able to remember anything once they come out of it. others will be aware but their mind is hazy, like you would if you were tipsy/drunk. a person often times cannot come out of a persuasion unless the command is completed, but there have been instances where a distraction, such as someone trying to get their attention, a jolt of pain, a sudden impact or even the sensation of falling/drowning/suffocating will 'wake them up.' | ooc info
