TWO YEARS AGO, A CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION GOING BY THE NAME TEAM IMUM WRECKED CHAOS ACROSS THE LAND, DAMAGING CITIES AND KILLING THOUSANDS OF CITIZENS. While Imum itself has long since been disbanded, however, the region remains broken: entire towns have been laid to waste and the Association struggles to find homes for those who were lucky enough to survive the attempted genocide. Reconstruction trudges on as usual... but with three factions - the Association, the corporations, and the people - each wishing to take the rebuilding of an entire region down opposite paths, how long will it be before Lyeant's last leg gives out permanently?

Riley noted Raiven freeze and his eyes dialate as she questioned his surname. Though he soon nodded slowly at the question, she eyed him somewhat suspiciously. He didn't seem too keen on sharing, though she supposed if a cop was asking for her name she wouldn't be, either. His sigh as he took the offered writing tools supported the theory that he was less than excited about what he was going to say, which meant she was going to have to read his message carefully.
When Raiven handed her back the notepad and pen, Riley scanned the writing, her jaw twisted slightly in concentration. "Well, Mr. Diomedes, you picked an unfortunate time to abandon roaming the wild. Or at least, an unfortunate place to frolick around half-naked." She thoughtfully tapped her chin with the pen. The sound of the mewling emnating from the nearby box distracted her, and she glanced over at the kittens with a slight frown before turning back to Raiven.
"Tell you what, Mr. Diomedes. We can take these kittens to the shelter first if you agree to come to the police station without a fight afterwards."
Riley looked the mutant up and down, sizing him up. He wasn't that big; maybe six feet, give or take a few inches. And though he looked pretty muscular, she guessed a lot of it was just fur. She probably could have taken him in a fight if he started one, especially since she had her gun, but she'd rather not have to fill out the paperwork for that sort of thing.
"Oh, and the name's Riley. But you can call me Officer Tuff." She paused, grinning. "So what do you say, Mr. Diomedes? Ready to ride in a car for the first time in fifteen years?"
BUDDY COP SHENANIGANS YES!! i love the whole good cop/bad cop dynamic they've got going on especially since its as you said, it's the opposite of who you'd expect to be good and bad!! THEY CAN DEFINITELY START AS VITRIOLIC PALS tbh riley would even have a good reason, she'd be a bit annoyed with just from the start if they were assigned to stuff together as riley is fiercely independent and would dislike having to work with him!
EVENTUAL OPPONENTS SOUNDS WONDERFUL AND AHH yes just could definitely pick at her insecurities about not being a mutant!! that sounds fantastic actually, though i hope just is prepared to defend against her fists as she'll likely use them if he pokes and prods too much... AND YES riley's skepticism could definitely lead to her uncovering just's lies eventually!!
one of their assignments together as we talked about a bit could be looking for someone important's escaped pet, like maybe the mayor of eriwall's dog ran away and its their job to find and catch it!! it could be anything really i just imagine a dog since riley really like them and just really doesn't B)
TBH im imagining like, them cruising along looking for the dog and aerosmith comes on the radio and riley's rockin' out and just is like nah
omg but yes small town buddy cop shenanigans with eventual serious business rp please pleeeease
Though she couldn't understand sign language, Riley did surmise that the creature nodding and putting a hand to his throat meant that he indeed could not speak. She was surprised to see that he could, however, write, and watched with interest as he scribbled away at the notepad with the pen.
When he handed them back to her, Riley's expression shifted from one of surprise to one of being impressed. Not only could he write, he could write well-- possibly even better than she could herself. His handwriting was certainly tidier.
"Raiven," Riley said as slowly read the note. Her eyes reached the end of the message and she looked back up at the mutant whose name she now knew. Well, most of it, anyways. "Is there a last name that goes with that?" She paused thoughtfully. "You didn't do anything wrong, if you're telling the truth. Scaring the pants off a few kids never got anyone arrested," she said, her gaze shifting to Raiven's scant clothing as she spoke, "but not wearing pants has. Indecent exposure to a minor is a felony. Have anything to say about that?"
She offered him her notepad and pen once more, hoping he wouldn't try to run. Despite appearances, he seemed civil enough, but she was not overly thrilled at the prospect of chasing someone of his size and probable agility through Eriwall's residential district.
Somewhat luckily for Jaden, Riley did not see the young woman roll her eyes. She did, however, take note of her carefree attitude and grimaced again. "...you destroyed a parking meter," she repeated, stifling a groan and resting her forehead in her hand. "...and scarred an old woman? I hope, for your sake, that you don't mean literally."
Riley grumbled something that sounded like 'damn right you'll pay for it' under her breath as she pulled open a drawer on her desk, skimming through the many folders within before withdrawing a rather thick one and placing it in front of her. It was a file Jaden had probably seen many times before; after all, it had her name on it.
Opening Jaden's file, Riley pulled a few empty police report sheets from a separate pile on her desk and set to work filling them out. After a few minutes of silence, save for the scratching of pen on paper, she stopped writing and looked back up at Jaden, her frown turning upwards into a grin.
"You really destroyed a parking meter?" She asked, shaking her head slowly, though she was still smiling at the absurdity of it. "What in the world possessed you to do that?"
"You don't know if it's your first--" Riley stopped short, stifling a sigh of impatience. She supposed it was possible Althea didn't recognize the idiom, so it was better not to press it. "Nevermind." She watched Althea for a moment as the young woman shifted her attention from Riley to the other witnesses and back again.
"I sure hope someone's seen something," she admitted with a slight grimace, her attention returning to the taped-off store. Her gaze flickered across the various damages the crook had inflicted. "Don't worry, Althea. It's not your fault. And yeah, whoever it is has..."
Riley paused, her attention caught by one of the men peering curiously over the yellow police tape. She stared for a moment at the sliver of dark metal peeking out of the man's right pants pocket. It was a familiar material; in fact, she had some in the holster on her hip right now...
"Has..."
Shit.
Riley forced herself to look away from the man, though she watched him out of the corner of her eye. None of the other officers seemed to have noticed anything yet-- was it possible she was just being paranoid? Even if she was, she couldn't take that chance.
"...on second thought, Althea, I'm going to need to question you down at the station. That goes for all of you," Riley said, raising her voice so the rest of the witnesses could hear. Several of them groaned, and she risked a glance at the man, wondering if he had recognized her sudden attempt to get some of the civilians to safety...
As the beast hopped off the wall and took a step towards her, Riley's free hand clenched into a fist while the other, still hovering over the holster of her firearm, inched closer to the weapon. Staring at the creature for a moment, she forced herself to take a breath and move her hand away from her gun. He wasn't doing anything threatening... at least, not yet.
Riley watched in confusion as the mutant began making gestures with his hands. She could only assume it was sign language, and unfortunately, she couldn't understand it. Her gaze traveled back up to his face and she was startled to see his teeth were bared. She took a step back, more out of instinct than fear, her face set and determined.
Her training was telling her to wait, that this thing might not be hostile, but her head was urging her to make the first move before whoever or whatever this was had a chance to hurt her. Riley grit her teeth, her hand once more moving towards her firearm--
Wait, was that meowing she heard? Riley tilted her head, peering cautiously into the box that the beast had placed on the ground. ...kittens? She glanced back up at the mutant, some of the tension leaving her body. Somehow, she couldn't imagine a ferocious beast taking care of a bunch of kittens. But that didn't change the fact that whoever this was had caused a disturbance. Not to mention indecent exposure, as that loincloth hardly counted as clothing.
"...alright, I'm guessing you can't talk," Riley said, her hand moving away from the holster of her gun as she crossed her arms over her chest. "But you seem to understand me just fine." A thought struck her, and she removed her notepad and pen from her uniform, holding them out towards the beast.
"Can you write? Tell me who you are, and what you're doing here."
Stepping out of her car, Riley stood with one hand on the door as she gazed out across the residential area. The station had gotten a call about some sort of disturbance, possibly a wild animal, though she couldn't see anything yet. Shutting the car door, Riley stepped towards the house that had made the call. With her luck, it had probably just been a stray dog, or--
There. On the wall. Riley moved so quickly she nearly tripped, throwing herself behind the nearby fence. Her heart beat a mile a minute as her hand shot instinctively to the holster of her gun. "Shit," she mumbled, pressing her back against the fence and peeking around the edge at what she had seen. "What the fuck is that?"
Riley stared for a moment longer before pulling her head back behind the fence. She could only describe what she had seen as some kind of beast. Could it have been a mutant? And what was it holding? Some kind of box? Well, she certainly wasn't going to find out by hiding. Gathering her courage, Riley stepped out from behind the fence.
She approached the hulking figure on the wall cautiously, her hand hovering dangerously over the holster of her gun. "Hey, uh... you," she called, not quite sure how to address the thing. She paused. She had been about to ask 'what are you', but that didn't quite seem like the best thing to ask. She didn't want to make it angry. "What are you doing here?"
When she heard there was a young girl who had been extremely hard to capture disrespecting her detaining officer and throwing around her words like she owned the place, Riley sighed and grit her teeth. She was only going to need one guess as to who it was. Leaving the paperwork she had been filling out on her desk, Riley stood and stormed out of her office towards the front room of the station.
Once she spotted Jaden, sitting nonchalantly with her arms behind her head, Riley made a beeline for the young woman. "Come with me," she grunted, glaring around the station before leading Jaden back to her office. Closing the door behind them and shutting the blinds, she turned to face the young woman and crossed her arms.
"Dammit, Jaden! You can't keep doing this! I can't keep covering for you. It's gonna get me in huge trouble one of these days." Riley sighed, moving behind her desk and sitting in her chair. She motioned for Jaden to do the same in the chair in front of the desk. "What did you do this time?" She demanded, her words emphasizing her weariness with Jaden's repeated offenses.
As soon as Althea started her description of the culprit, Riley's eyes slid down to her notepad and she began writing. Not that there was much to write, but it was better than nothing. ...well. Almost better than nothing. After all, 'a guy in a black ski mask' could be anyone.
"You don't sound too worried about it," Riley commented, looking away from her notepad to examine Althea again. "This not your first rodeo or something?" For a moment the alarming thought that Althea might be involved somehow crossed her mind, but Riley immediately dismissed it. This was Althea she was talking about, after all. Somehow she couldn't imagine the generous young woman being involved in crime.
Upon hearing Althea's question, Riley couldn't help but grin. "'Course I'm gonna catch him," she said confidently, causing at least one nearby officer, a man who was dusting for fingerprints, to glance over and shake his head quietly. If she noticed him, Riley did not react, instead continuing to smile down at the curious young woman. "I wouldn't let this creep get away with it a third time."
Riley briefly looked over to the rest of the witnesses that were gathered a bit away, wondering if any of them would have a more helpful description of the criminal. Though she was skeptical of getting anything more out of them than she had gotten from Althea, she knew she would have to question them, too. Oh, well. They could wait a little longer.
Glancing back down at what she had written, Riley tapped her chin with her pen thoughtfully. "Did you see anything else? Anything suspicious? Even in the rest of the mall."
OOH YES i can definitely see JADEN ABADEER and riley having a long history due to jaden's various pranks and other run ins with the law!! TBH A SISTERLY RELATIONSHIP SOUNDS REALLY CUTE?!?! i feel like riley and jaden would definitely have the sort of sibling rivalry type deal going on, where they butt heads and then joke about it later!! TBH THO jaden's power would probably cause some serious tension between them, at least at first!! riley has very strong feelings about mutants and powers!! its not that she hates them as both her parents are mutants, its more like she's... a little jealous?? and angry at them if that makes sense!! so that would probably cause some strain in their relationship, at least for a while!!
With a grimace Riley made her way through the crowded hallways of the mall. She was headed for one of the mall's jewelry stores, Pearls of Wisdom, where a robbery had just taken place. It was the third store this week to be robbed at the mall, and this time in broad daylight, too. Whoever this criminal was (assuming, of course, it was the same culprit for all three crimes) they were getting bolder. Pretty soon, they might escalate to more than just knocking out the security around the area. Someone might get seriously hurt.
Stepping under the yellow police tape, Riley glanced around the store. Glass from several shattered displays littered the floor, and several fellow officers milled about with their forensic kits, searching for evidence around the scene. After a moment, she spotted what she had been looking for. The witnesses, both those who had been inside the store at the time of the robbery and those who had been passing by, had been gathered off to the side, slightly away from the crime scene. With pen and notepad in hand, Riley approached them, her neutral expression shifting to one of surprise when she saw someone she recognized among them.
"Althea?" She said, glancing around before looking back to the young woman. There was a brief moment of silence as she looked her over as though to make sure she had not been injured. She was not overly fond of the young woman, but she supposed it was good she was here. "Tell me what you saw. Don't leave anything out. Try to be as detailed as you can." Riley hoisted her pen and notepad, looking at Althea expectantly.
role model might work, possibly? i mean riley is a cop after all, so she does fight crime n stuff, but she's a pretty volatile one. from what ive read tho althea and riley seem to be pretty opposite so i feel like there would likely be some tension, at least at first!! definitely some conflicts with althea's powers and with riley being a jerk sometimes. maybe the role model part comes later in their relationship? like after something happens idk. hmm
also just the contrast of these two is making me happy?? like how althea dislikes beer- riley is somewhat of a drinker. althea is posh and into things like fine dining and shopping while riley prefers to wear baggy sweatshirts and likes to fight. THEY BOTH LOVE SWIMMING THO WHICH IS V. IMPORTANT. i feel like these two could go in either direction really!! being either good friends or disliking eachother.
IM GOOD WITH ANYTHING REALLY, maybe starting out as disliking eachother and gradually realizing that despite their huge differences they actually get along pretty well?? riley would even beat up anyone who doesnt accept althea because of her sexuality/anything else ehehe
anyone who wants to be friends with riley will have to have a pretty thick skin owing to the fact that she's incredibly outspoken and is a jerk sometimes tbh. this will be especially true when she's around anyone who she knows is a mutant. powers are a pretty touchy subject with riley, since both her parents are mutants and she isn't, so being around mutants tends to remind her of the expectations her parents placed on her. bUT if one can see past all that riley is pretty radical to her friends!! she's intensely loyal, though she likes to tease.
as far as enemies go, riley is sure to have plenty!! her brutal honesty and tendency to pick fights (verbal and physical) with just about anyone can easily land her on people's bad sides. since she's an UPHOLDER OF JUSTICE (aka police officer) criminals would also almost exclusively be considered her enemies. she also hates having to rely on people, so anyone she needs for whatever reason she'll be at least prickly towards.
when it comes to romance, riley would be pretty awkward in a relationship at first, probably more abrasive than she is normally. though eventually she'd figure out that being an asshole is not attractive and try to change how she acts to them. if a girl can manage to put up with her long enough to become closer than friends, i admire their patience and diligence!
LIKES - sports - power ballads - dogs - being challenged - fighting
DISLIKES - liars - smartasses - being helpless/powerless - hot weather - uncomfortable clothing
Though she is not exactly mean, Riley’s loud and boisterous nature can make her difficult to get along with. She is very opinionated and open about everything. Though her attitude tends to drive some people off, she does not mind being alone. Riley is highly independent. She is more than capable of taking care of herself and hates having to rely on anyone. It is for this reason that she so rarely accepts help from others.
Riley is extremely unafraid to speak her mind. If she doesn’t like something about you, you’ll know. However, the opposite is also true; if she thinks you’re fantastic, prepare to be showered in compliments. Her brutal honesty has gotten her in trouble many times, and probably will continue to do so throughout the years. She also loves sports and athletic activities; anything that requires physical exertion.
Ever a skeptic, Riley doesn’t believe in anything without seeing proof. She learned at an early age not to believe in fairy tales and happy endings. She is also extremely reckless, especially when faced with danger. She is not exactly brave; she’s just too stubborn to be afraid. Riley is not one of those girls with a tough outer shell and a soft, gooey center. Nope, she’s just tough all the way through.
biography
Riley inherited a lot of things from her parents. Her looks, her personality, even her taste in music. She did not, however, inherit their powers. Both of her parents are mutants, and Riley... is not. Growing up, her parents always expected her powers to reveal themselves at some point, but they never did. Riley felt the pressure from her parents to be something she wasn't on a daily basis and became very sensitive on the topic of mutants, even getting into fights at school whenever the topic was brought up.
It was one day, after being sent to detention for such a fight, that Riley saw a presenter from the local police force. He spoke about the duties and dangers that came with being an officer. Riley was enthralled at the possibility of proving she was capable of being strong without being a mutant like her parents. As soon as she graduated from high school, she applied to the police academy. Initially, there was some doubt as to whether she would be accepted due to her troublemaking time in school, but the academy decided to give her a chance. After two years, she graduated, and became a full-fledged officer. She now enforces the law in Eriwall.
