Being in a hospital and working with people seemed to be a rather tiring job to some. The long hours, the endless amounts of work that never seemed to lighten up. The patients, having to attend to their every need. It all seemed rather taxing and unrewarding. However, Aveline didn't have much of an issue with it. If anything, she loved helping people. It gave her a sense of purpose and even joy. However, she had lost something irreplaceable due to her dedication to her job. Tending to a little boy, she was putting him down for a nap. He had just been born, a precious bundle of joy named Oswald, such a cute name for a cute boy. As he was laid down and then enclosed with the other newborns, she sighed and placed a hand against the window as she left the room.
Perhaps if she had just gave in, the two of them could have been standing there. Holding one another while smiling at their little newborn child and laughing. It was almost torturous how well she remembered his laugh. His amused smile whenever she blundered and the way they would argue but their eyes wouldn't be filled with anger or malice, just joy and happiness. A dull ache formed in her chest and she wrapped her arms around herself squeezing lightly.
"Miss Alkaev, are you alright?"
She snapped out of her daze to give the girl a little smile. She must have been one of the interns. She was slightly surprised that this one hadn't gone home yet. Others were shellshocked from the amount of blood and queasiness that came from the job.
"Fine, I'm absolutely fine. Thank you for asking."
The girl nodded and adjusted her sack before going to leave.
Aveline waved her off before sighing and then glancing out of the nearby window.

there were risks that came with the job. val out of all people knew that. he put himself in a position where he was vulnerable and prone to danger. and he deserved what he got. a bullet to the shoulder. he was lucky. an inch or two to the right and the situation would be a whole different one. he was out on delivery, smuggling weapons into the city where he would market them on the black market. it was supposed to an easy job. go to the pickup point, get the crates, drive back. but apparently another gang had different ideas and tried to get the crates for themselves. val managed to evade them, but it costed him a bullet wound. he stumbled out of his car and towards the entrance of the building. his coat was drenched with blood, and it was still pouring. pressure was applied using a scarf, but he doubt it would help him that much. the doors slid open, almost welcoming val to his fate. he stood in the middle of the room and waited for someone to help him. but before anyone could, he blacked out. he managed to somehow find his way over to a wall before sliding down to the floor. now he was out. maybe someone could help him.

TRY TWICE AS HARD AND I'M HALF AS LIKED. ✿ Pulling her bag onto her shoulder and preparing to leave, she softly hummed as she turned the corner. That is when her heart dropped into the pits of her stomach. Staring downwards, she could see a man leaning against the wall with a puddle of blood underneath him. The memories of years passed flashed before her eyes and slowly her hand slipped from the bag as it fell to the floor. Her hands trembled and she reached out only to hesitate then reach again. For a few moments, she repeated this process before noticing that his wound was only growing worse as the time ticked on. Taking off her coat, she leaned down and grasped one of his arms before pulling him into an upright position. One arm wrapped around him, the other supporting him as she brought him back to her office where a bed sat for the patients when they decided to stop by for a check-up. Laying him on the bed, she hurried to remove his jacket and shirt. The wound wasn't as bad as she had thought but it seemed to have been made from a bullet. Her heart ached, was he still chasing after that dream? She hurried to gather the necessary supplies and set to work to remove the bullet along with tending to the wound. Thankfully he was unconscious or else this would have been difficult. Though once she was gone, she merely stared at him. Vasils Kuznetsov, the man of her dreams and the only person that she ever dared to love was sitting there in front of her wounded. He could have died if she had left a moment earlier or later, no one would have been able to help him. Even if they had broken up, her heart hadn't given up on him at all. With a shaky hand, she grasped his own and held it to her lips before giving his knuckles soft kisses. His hands still had callouses, but it was warm and inviting almost like their hands belonged together. Normally, she would have been against fratenizing with her patients. However nothing could have stopped her from climbing into the bed next to him and resting her head on the opposite side from where his bandages were while dreaming of better days. |

that smell...it was familiar to val. a nice peachy scent. he knew exactly where he knew that scent from. it was aveline's. he dreamed back to those days. the best part of his life happened when they were together. from dawn to dusk they were together. inseparable. he would give anything to have that back. val soon faded from his dream. his eyes creaked open but his vision was still blurred. he felt something on his arm and hand. slowly turning his head to the right, his heart dropped. this had to be a dream, he thought. he tried moving his hand only to be stopped by the weight of hers. this was bad, he thought. not only did he fuck up but now he had to go and involve her in this. that's part of the reason why they broke up. there was no way out of this. he just had to face it. he tried to find the right words to say but was lost. he couldn't make shape of this situation. "...you should have left me," val whispered. him being there was a threat to both of them. he didn't know if the thugs were still chasing him. and if they were then that puts aveline at risk as well. he had to get out of here as soon as possible. val attempted to get up but was stopped by the sheer pain from his wound. he grunted in pain before settling back down onto the bed. he turned his head away from aveline, trying to hide his own.

TRY TWICE AS HARD AND I'M HALF AS LIKED. ✿ His movements brought her out of the lull of sleep. The sweet memories of their love that echoed throughout her mind stopped and vanished as reality set in. Opening her eyes, she looked up to find that his head was facing the other way. She couldn't see his sleeping expression though the tenseness of his body meant that he was most likely awake. Her eyes softened and she slowly adjusted herself on the bed placing a hand flat against his chest.
Leaning closer, she aimed to press a kiss behind his ear like she did whenever he was distressed. The kiss would have been followed by a little kiss to the cheek. Her fingers curled into his shirt and she willed the tears that were threatening to form to push back.
" I'm a medic, I can't leave anyone to their doom. No matter our relations." There was no way that she could let him go. However, she knew that the two of them would have to part. She remembered whenever he was gone for an extended period of time. Although she continued with her daily routine, when he came back it was almost like he was gone for ages. They had been dating for five years and no matter what, it always felt like she was falling in love with him again. Even now, she was falling in love with him all over again. " You shouldn't move. Do you want anything to drink or eat? It may help. Losing so much blood could make you a bit dehydrated." |

his heart fluttered with each kiss aveline gave. he remembered them. he cherished each one. he held back the tears. it wasn't manly to cry. "it isn't safe for you...i'm not safe," val whispered. he felt groggy with his words. wherever he went danger would follow. he couldn't be here. val held back the things he wanted to say to her. that he was sorry for everything. for leaving her, for abandoning her. it must not have been easy for her these past few years. it wasn't easy for val. he avoided looking at her at all costs. but it strained his neck. he couldn't keep up with this for too long. "trust me. just leave," val said, this time his voice carried sternness. he wasn't playing around. this was the love of his life he was talking about. but his will soon faded. his eyes drifted open and towards aveline. upon first glimpse of her eyes he felt his heart beat faster. stronger. their eyes locked and for a brief moment, val forgot everything. the pain he was in, his goals, everything. a moment of clarity. the edge of his lips curved up and formed a small smile. ah, shit. "i...i missed you." val felt his hand tightening up against hers. his heart raced faster. he tried to speak more but was stopped by his throat. it was dry. almost painful to talk. "water..." val muttered.
